Honey Out Of The Rock

Psalm 81:16 He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

Reading this Psalm we see two different aspects present, the things God has done for us or Israel in this case and the things God wants to do but we have missed out on because we have chosen to reject Him or not follow Him. The first ten verses are about what God has done, creating a feast time, ordaining Joseph, removing burdens, deliverance, and God declares that we should open our mouths wide and He will fill it.

I think of what that would be, to open my mouth wide so that God can fill it. To me that means God has a desire to provide an abundant excess to all that I need, whatever that may be. Whether it be in the Physical with food shelter jobs ect or Spiritually in Peace, Hope, Joy, Faith, God wants to provide it all for me. However the next verse tells us that we don't always get those things, but it also tells us why we don't get those things.

It's not because of God, but it is because of us, read the next verse:

11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.

When we don't hearken to the voice of God we miss out on all of His blessings, and we choose our own desires and paths over God. This hit home to me because I can not count all the times I have been guilty of not listening to God and then choosing to go my own way. How many blessings I must have missed out on. Reading further in the Psalm there is a blessing that I don't want to miss out on, a blessing I see that we all can still have access to, and I want to show you quickly what that blessing is and where to look to receive it.

The verse quoted to start today's devotional is the blessing I no longer want to miss out on above all other blessings. There is a Rock today that we have access to that will provide us with Honey to satisfy all we need. The Bible tells us who this Rock is that we should seek out for our providence.

1 Cor 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Just as in the days of Israel wandering in the desert, looking for the Rock to satisfy them, we too are looking for something to satisfy us. It is the same Rock that we need to be looking to for that satisfaction and that Rock is Jesus Christ.

Moreover it is not just water that this Rock who is Christ is wanting to provide us, but something better, Honey. Honey satisfies more than just water can, it not only provides us with what is needed to overcome thirst, but it also provides substances, nutrition, it is both a liquid and a meal. On top of that it is delicious, one of the best, sweetest tasting things we can hope to eat.

Today let us turn from our own lusts of our hearts and the paths we would want to walk down and turn back to God, turn back to Christ who will open our mouth wide and fill us with the Honey of Life, all the great sweet and good we need to find our true satisfaction.

I love you all, have a great day and blessed day in the Lord!
